REFERANCE PHOTOS

  • Take photos in natural lighting, outside on an overcast day is best. Dogs are happiest when on a walk or when you are in the yard with them, and it shows.  Indoor cats can be brought outside on a leash.

  • The photos should be clear enough that I can see the eyes and direction of the fur, scales, feathers or spiny features of your favourite pet.

  • The best pictures are those taken at your pet’s level.  You may be on the floor or ground for a while.  Stay calm, move slowly and smile.  Oh…and who doesn’t love a treat?  Bring one for yourself as well….you deserve it!

  • When photographing inside, try taking the picture near a large window.

  • When requesting two pets in one painting it can be hard to get them together in one photo.  You are not alone!  When taking separate photo’s It is helpful if the photographs are taken in the same lighting and you are at the same level as each pet when their pictures are taken.

**I understand that it isn’t always possible to have a stellar photo.  Sometimes all you have is a picture of a pet that is no longer with us.  Send me what you have, and I will see if I can work with it.  In these situations the details may not be exact however it may be something that we can work with together.  If the reference photo is from too far away or blurry, I will not be able to draw it. Please know that in the end I want you to be happy with your portrait.

This picture is blurry. Not something I can work with.
Great photo. Eyes are clear & I can see the fur direction.
I can't see the eyes in this photo and it's not clear.
